13 years turning tech packs into production-ready patterns and markers — base blocks, grading, made-to-measure and lay planning for export and domestic apparel.
I'm a pattern and CAD professional with 13 years in pattern engineering, CAD management and marker planning across export and domestic apparel manufacturing. My daily work runs from base block development and grading through made-to-measure pattern generation, fit correction and marker efficiency.
I'm an expert Richpeace CAD user with working knowledge of Optitex PDS and AAMA/ASTM DXF pattern exchange for buyer file compatibility. Strategic marker planning and lay optimisation have delivered a 10% gain in fabric utilisation, and a structured pattern QC checklist cut pattern-related production errors by 15%.
I've worked in high-mix style environments — woven tops and bottoms, formal shirting and suiting, ethnic wear, kids wear and made-to-measure programmes — with formal training in knitwear processing and 5S efficiency systems. I'm now looking for a Pattern / CAD Manager role in a large-scale export manufacturing environment.
Base pattern & block development, manual and CAD grading, made-to-measure pattern generation, alteration & fit correction, sewing and shrinkage allowance, spec sheet and tech pack interpretation, size set development.
Richpeace CAD (expert) — pattern, grading, automatic nesting, digitising, plotter operation. Optitex PDS (working knowledge). Gerber AccuMark (exposure). AAMA/ASTM DXF import & export for buyer pattern exchange. CLO3D in progress for 3D virtual sampling.
Marker planning and efficiency optimisation, lay planning, cut ratio and cut order planning, splice mark handling, fabric consumption / CPM calculation, fabric width and shrinkage variation management.
Fit sample and PP meeting participation, AQL 2.5 inspection standards, method study and time study, 5S and lean manufacturing, fabric analysis and testing, cost optimisation.
Team leadership, production planning, cross-department coordination with sampling, merchandising and sewing, MIS reporting, Advanced Excel (VBA), CorelDRAW and Adobe Photoshop.
Beyond the cutting table I build the software I need — Excel/VBA marker efficiency trackers on the floor, and full-stack web systems in PHP and MySQL for production reporting and small business operations.
Brands worked for include Giovani, Lombard, Scullers and John Miller.
Numbers on a CV are only half the story. Here's what was actually broken, what I changed, and what it moved.
A multi-brand operation with a very high style count. Markers were being made style by style, so efficiency swung widely between orders and nobody could see where fabric was leaking.
Reworked marker planning around size-ratio combinations and lay optimisation instead of single-size markers, standardised splice handling, and built an Excel/VBA tracker so every marker's efficiency was recorded and comparable.
10% improvement in fabric efficiency across the programme, with marker efficiency reporting that no longer depended on manual data entry.
Shirting, suiting and ethnic wear lines shared one pattern room. Notch mismatches, missing allowances and wrong piece counts were being discovered after cutting — the most expensive place to find them.
Introduced a pre-release pattern QC checklist that every pattern had to clear before it left the room — seam and shrinkage allowances, notch and grain verification, piece count against the tech pack, and a size-set sanity check.
Pattern-related production errors down 15%, and fewer emergency re-cuts disrupting the sewing plan.
In a made-to-measure house the same fit issues kept reappearing on new orders — sleeve pitch, back balance, chest ease on non-standard body shapes — because each alteration was treated as a one-off repair.
Took ownership of the full alteration and fit-correction cycle across suits, sherwanis, kurtas, trousers, Bandhgala and Indo-Western, and fed every correction back into the master blocks. Added daily fit-issue tracking reported straight to the owner.
Repeat fit issues drop on subsequent orders instead of resurfacing, and the blocks get more accurate with every customer measured.
Plot outputs, grading nests, marker screens and fit samples. Tap any panel to enlarge.
Buyers increasingly want a garment approved on screen before a single metre is cut. I'm building CLO3D into my workflow so 2D patterns I already own can be simulated, fit-checked and revised virtually — cutting sample rounds, courier time and fabric waste out of the development cycle.
The number I chase every day. Put in your marker and see the efficiency, the consumption per garment, and what two more points would save on the order.
Efficiency = total pattern area ÷ marker area. Get the net pattern area from your CAD software's piece area report.
AR Khan did a fantastic job delivering the “Blazer pattern in CAD Software” gig. His work was precise, professionally done, and delivered right on time. Communication was smooth throughout the process, and he understood my requirements perfectly. I highly recommend him to anyone looking for expert-level CAD pattern design. Will definitely work with him again!
